Cosmic Inflation: physics at the edge of the Universe - Free

An online public talk by Professor David Wands about our current understanding of the early Universe and the physics that shaped it.

About this Event

Looking out into the distant Universe we are also looking back in time, towards the Big Bang. Light that reaches us from the very edge of our observable Universe today tells us about the physics that shaped our cosmos at ultra-high energies. In this talk, Professor Wands will discuss some of our current ideas about what caused the early universe to inflate, why there is something rather than nothing, and why the Universe is so damn big.

This public talk will take place online, with the link being emailed to registered attendees 48 hours before the event.

If you have any accessibility requirements to assist your viewing of this event (e.g. closed captioning, screen readable digital copies of slides in advance) please contact us so we can discuss this with you further.

About the Speaker

David Wands is Professor of Cosmology and researches the very early Universe and the origin of structure. He studied at the Universities of Cambridge and Sussex before joining Portsmouth. He was a Royal Society University Research Fellow before becoming Professor in the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, serving as Director of the ICG from 2010 to 2020. He likes physics, football and furry animals.
